Students may be admitted to UCL Economics in one of three categories. Below are the required qualifications for each, with links to equivalent UCL courses explaining the material a student should have covered. Students will be required to demonstrate equivalencies on a transcript; this is the only documentation that will be accepted.
Category 1 Requirements
- Intermediate Microeconomics () (calculus-based)
- Intermediate Macroeconomics ()(calculus-based)
- Intermediate Econometrics () (calculus-based, covering multiple regression, heteroscedasticity, instrumental variables, Probit/Logit, censoring, time-series regression, etc.)
- Students admitted to Category 1 can take Year 3/Final modules.
Category 2 Requirements
- Introductory Economics () (modern intro to micro and macro)
- Intermediate Calculus () (multivariable calculus and linear algebra)
- Introductory Statistics & Econometrics ( &) (calculus-based stats, probability, hypothesis testing, and OLS)
- Students admitted to Category 2 can only take a limited module list unless they provide an updated transcript showing Category 1-level coursework.
Category 3 Requirements
- Single-variable Calculus (differentiation, integration, basic algebra, optimization, functions, and basic probability)
- Category 3 students will have extremely limited module choices, which must be discussed with their home university.
Students with specific course requirements must mention them in their personal statement, found in the Arcadia Application Portal.
UCL will share decisions for all departments after March 31, and will take 4-6 weeks. Please advise students to expect admissions decisions after mid-May. UCL bases admissions decisions on academic performance and grade history. They require evidence on student transcripts of relevant courses, which have been taken beyond introductory level.
